French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron are preparing to take the extraordinary step of presenting scientific and photographic evidence in a U.S. court to prove that Brigitte is, in fact, a woman.
The move comes as part of a defamation lawsuit filed against American conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly claimed—without evidence—that the French First Lady was born male and later transitioned.
The couple’s attorney, Tom Clare, revealed on the BBC’s Fame Under Fire podcast that expert testimony and personal photographs, including images of Brigitte pregnant with her children, will be submitted in court.
“It is incredibly upsetting to think that you have to go and subject yourself to this kind of proof,” Clare said. “But she’s willing to do it. She is firmly resolved to do what it takes to set the record straight.”
Owens has doubled down on her allegations, saying on her podcast earlier this year that she “would stake [her] entire professional career” on the claims. The Macrons argue that Owens disregarded credible evidence in favor of conspiracy theories and filed suit in Delaware in July.
This is not the first time Brigitte Macron has fought such rumors. In 2021, she sued two women in France for making similar accusations. While the case was initially ruled in her favor, it was later overturned on appeal and is now pending before France’s highest court.
Brigitte Macron, now 72, first met Emmanuel Macron in 1993 when she was his teacher. The pair married in 2007.
