One Reddit user recently shared a hilarious workplace encounter that exposed just how much technology has changed.
They gave a younger Gen Z colleague their personal email address, which happened to be their actual first and last name on Gmail.
The response?
“How did you get an email address like that??”

The colleague apparently couldn't understand how someone managed to get such a clean Gmail address without adding something like:
johnsmith4827@gmail.com
or
j.smith2004@gmail.com
The explanation made things even more awkward.
The Reddit poster explained that when Gmail first launched, getting an account involved an invitation from an existing user—and because their name was still available, they grabbed it.
The Gen Z colleague had apparently never heard of the invitation-only era.
