After having his lower leg amputated, a man decided to explore what human meat tastes like, sharing the experience with a few close friends
While consuming animal meat is common around the world, some might be curious about the taste of human flesh. Thankfully, in most cases, discovering this taste is strictly illegal, although there are a few exceptions.
For instance, if a person undergoes an amputation for reasons unrelated to infection, they may have the option to keep their amputated limb. Since the limb remains their property, they are free to decide what to do with it
A Reddit user named IncrediblyShinyShart (ISS) participated in an “Ask Me Anything” session, where he revealed that after having his foot amputated, he chose to keep it rather than letting the doctor dispose of it
He then prepared a remarkable meal for himself and some friends, featuring tacos made from the meat of his own foot.
“I taste like buffalo, but chewier. Super beefy with little fat,” he described, answering a barrage of questions from intrigued Redditors who were eager to know more. While the idea was shocking, ISS noted that his friends were surprisingly willing to try the human meat, though not everyone was fully on board.
“I had one person back out, and that’s totally understandable,” he admitted.
This strange venture stemmed from a macabre curiosity that ISS and his friends shared.
“My friends and I always joked. ‘If you could try human flesh in an ethical and healthy way, would you?’” ISS recalled. “We always said yes. So, when the opportunity arose, I called them on it.”
The amputation occurred after a motorcycle accident left him with no feeling in his foot, rendering it completely nonfunctional. In an interview with Vice, ISS further explained his initial plans for the amputated limb
“At first, I wanted to have it taxidermied or freeze-dried,” he said, though those options ultimately didn’t work out.
He detailed the cooking process. “[The chef] marinated it overnight. Sautéed it with onions, peppers, salt, pepper, and lime juice. Then he served it on corn tortillas with a tomatillo sauce.”
